Bonaparte Before the Sphinx by Jean-Léon Gérôme

Man was blessed with the wisdom of Thoth,
And Khufu used it to raise his eternal tomb.
To reach the heavens, shadow the Sumerians,
Shape the landscape of the world.
Lingering in time, hills built my men,
For what purpose, the theories have no end.
South there is only one kingdom under Ra,
That of united Kemet and the Nile.
Where the sons of Horus rule with absolute power,
And their realm is the envy of the world.
The stories of the travelers are true.
The heart of the Red land is lush and green.
Streets paved in gold, gleaming like a second sun.
Temples stretching for miles, larger by the day.
Statues rising proud and tall, smirking at us all.
They look the world with their frozen eyes,
Their stone heart is dancing in pleasure,
For such greatness will never be matched.
Those who come will wonder at these works,
They have stood the test of time, your legacy is true,
Thutmosis’ and Osiris’ greatness belongs to you.
