Phryne on the Poseidon’s celebration in Eleusis by Henryk Siemiradzki

Ten thousand flickering lights roam the streets,
And the world is drowned from those who salvation seek.
Golden coins buy thrones,
The best insurances are paid in bones.
The words of the prophets paint the faces of the meek.
Their creed, has made our future look bleak.
Yet who can conquer their chants:

The faithful shall be rewarded,
The faithful shall be rewarded,
The faithful shall be rewarded.

Hunt the witches, hunt the mages, hunt the pages.
Conquer distant foreign lands,
To whom belong your broken hands?
You want to be strong, never wrong,
Your name to be known, in the Heavens and beyond.
Do you want to learn an happy song?
It goes like this, follow along:

The faithful shall be rewarded,
The faithful shall be rewarded,
The faithful shall be rewarded

In my dreams, they I have met,
Sad whispers say, “the future is red!”
The animals of your land, are real but in flags and caps;
Pick well thy historians,
For their quill might right truths,
That one day may take the life of thousands of youths.
I ask for words, they give me lines:

The faithful shall be rewarded,
The faithful shall be rewarded,
The faithful shall be rewarded.

From my book Morpheus
